July 15–16, 2026 · With the NOAA Marine Protected Area Center

The Blue Rampart

Big Ocean and the NOAA Marine Protected Area Center (U.S. MPA Center) are co-hosting a virtual learning exchange, The Blue Rampart: Understanding and Leveraging Global Trends around Coastal Resilience and National Security for Large-Scale Marine Protected Area Success. Across two interactive three-hour sessions (13:00–16:00 HST, July 15 and 16), practitioners, academics, and policymakers will explore how large-scale marine protected areas contribute to coastal resilience and security, drawing on case studies and shared best practice. Interpretation in English and Spanish.

November 13–17, 2026 · IMCC8, Scotland

Human dimensions of large-scale MPAs

We're hoping to have a presence at the International Marine Conservation Congress (IMCC8) in Scotland (November 13–17, 2026). Partners Drs. Rebecca Gruby and Noella Gray hope to present on the human dimensions of large-scale management and its interconnections with the high seas, including some outcomes from our collaborative global LSMPA managers' priorities and progress survey. More to come.
